The Worshipful Company of Launderers is one of the modern livery companies of the City of London, representing the textile care, laundry, and dry cleaning industry. More than a ceremonial institution, the Company plays an active role in shaping the future of the trade through professional development, charitable giving, and civic engagement.
The Company’s work spans several important areas. It promotes the craft, trade, and profession of professional launderers and dry cleaners, while funding scholarships for students and newcomers looking to build a career in the industry. Through The Worshipful Company of Launderers Benevolent Trust Fund, it provides relief and financial assistance to current and retired industry workers, their spouses, and dependents facing hardship.
The Company also maintains strong civic and social ties. Members take part in the civic governance of the City of London, and a formal affiliation with the laundry squadron of the Royal Logistic Corps sees a silver medal presented to their top soldier each year.
The evening of 22 June 2026 brought one of the highlights of the Company calendar. The installation of this year’s Master, Graham Oakley, was followed by the annual banquet dinner, where members and guests gathered to celebrate the year ahead. Ruth Mitchell and Simon from ABS Laundry Business Solutions were proud to attend, joining familiar faces from across the industry, including several valued ABS customers.
One particular moment of the evening was the presentation of the Soldier of the Year award. Graham Oakley honoured the recipient in recognition of the hard work and dedication shown throughout the past year, a fitting reminder of the partnership between the Company and the Royal Logistic Corps.
Evenings like this reflect what makes the laundry industry so special. Heritage, fellowship, and a shared commitment to the people who keep the trade moving forward. ABS Laundry Business Solutions extends its congratulations to Graham Oakley on his new role as Master, and to the Soldier of the Year, and looks forward to a year of progress and connection ahead.
