The vulnerability relates to compromised certificate authorities. It could potentially allow attackers to impersonate trusted systems and intercept or manipulate encrypted communications, known as a Man in the Middle (MITM) attack.

Oracle rates the vulnerability with a CVSS severity score of 9.1 (Critical). Due to this high rating, the vulnerability may also be identified and reported by automated security and vulnerability scanning tools.

Limited Exposure Within ABSSolute

Based on a technical assessment, ABS Laundry Business Solutions classifies the actual security risk to ABSSolute as Medium. The potential exposure is limited to a small number of outgoing connections.

Potentially exposed

  • Outgoing HTTPS communication of certain third party integrations
  • UHF Concentrator
  • Local Print Server

Not affected

  • Client/Server
  • Customer Web Portal
  • Infinity Client
  • Android apps

Successful exploitation would require an attacker to intercept or redirect network communications and present fraudulent security certificates. These conditions significantly reduce the likelihood of exploitation within typical ABSSolute environments. ABS Laundry Business Solutions therefore considers the practical security risk considerably lower than the generic CVSS severity rating suggests.

Security Updates in Preparation

Information security remains a key priority at ABS Laundry Business Solutions. The technical assessment is complete and updates to address the Java runtime vulnerability are being prepared.

1. Runtime update from Azul
Azul, the Java runtime supplier for ABSSolute, has announced a security update addressing this vulnerability.
2. Integration and validation
Once the updated runtime is available, it will be integrated and validated through the standard software release and testing procedures. As this is a maintenance update within the existing Java version, the risk of compatibility issues is expected to be limited.
3. Release and notification
The security updates are expected shortly. Customers will be informed as soon as they are available and can plan the installation through the regular software maintenance process.
